Flames gutted a mobile home in Green Acres mobile home park Friday night as Plain Township and Warsaw firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.
Kosciusko County Central Dispatch received a call just before 11:30 p.m. reporting a fire at Lot 81 in the mobile home park just north of CR 200N. Fire officials at the scene reported no injuries. The residents of the mobile home were not at home at the time of the fire.
Gary Rodriguez lives in the home next door to Lot 81. Rodriguez said he had just gone to bed when he heard what sounded like rain on his roof.
"I looked outside and there were flames falling out of the sky onto my roof," Rodriguez said. "It was just like rain, but bright."
Plain Township Fire Chief Mitch Rader said flames were coming out of the north side of the home when firefighters first reached the scene. Rader said several propane tanks exploded and firefighters evacuated residents in the surrounding mobile homes in case the flames and smoke spread further. At least one nearby mobile home was also damaged by flames.
Bystanders said at least three people lived in the home, however, the residents' names were unavailable.
