Fire Destroys 2 Homes, 2 Outbuildings, WoodsSILVER LAKE - A fire that destroyed two summer homes on Diamond Lake, two outbuildings and part of the woods around them early Monday morning remained under investigation as of Monday evening.
According to Burket Fire Department Chief Kevin McSherry, a mobile home fire at 5490 W. Warren St., Silver Lake, completely destroyed the house and then spread to the home at 5498 W. Warren St., before then spreading north into the woods.
The mobile home at 5490 was totally gone before a neighbor reported the fire, McSherry said, and the second house was involved when the fire department was contacted. The fire was reported at 1:36 a.m. Monday.
McSherry did not have a cause of fire as of Monday afternoon.
County records indicate the home at 5490 W. Warren St., Silver Lake, is owned by Ross Kelly Sr., Marion; and the home at 5498 is owned by Jackie Lee Monroe Jr., Kokomo.
No injuries were reported.
Along with the Burket Fire Department, other departments responding to the two structures, two outbuildings and forest fire included Silver Lake, Henry Township, Mentone and Claypool fire departments.
