Kosciusko County fire departments and EMS are using the county's new public communications tower system.
At the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Merit Board meeting Wednesday, Kosciusko County Administrator Marsha McSherry gave that news, saying that they started using it Monday.
That follows police departments already starting to use the new system.
The Merit Board also was thanked for its service by Kosciusko County Sheriff Kyle Dukes.
"I just wanted to publicly say thank you to the merit board for everything you guys have done, and I greatly appreciate it," he said.
Sheriff-elect Jim Smith also thanked the Board members for their service.
Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office Senior Det. Sgt. Josh Spangle asked if any of the current members would be interested in still serving on the board.
That's due to KCSO deputies being allowed to pick two of the Board's members every four years. Smith, as the incoming sheriff, will pick the other three.
Both Alan Alderfer and Travis McConnell verbally indicated they would still like to serve on the board.
In other business, the Board:
• Heard from KCSO Chief Deputy Shane Bucher that 249 people were incarcerated in the Kosciusko County Jail as of the time of the meeting Wednesday, with 64 at Kosciusko County Work Release.
• Heard from Bucher that three jailers had been hired. A new jail corporal has also been chosen.
• Heard from Bucher that the KCSO is getting a new computer for a patrol car as a result of funding from the Kosciusko Coalition on Drug Education.
• Heard from McSherry that a new fire alarm system will be installed at the Kosciusko County Justice Building starting next month.
• Heard from Bucher that the KCSO and the Warsaw Police Department are getting new portable breathalyzer equipment for drug testing.
