Posted

Candidates for the Warsaw and Wawasee school boards have one week left to file for office in the Kosciusko County clerk's office.

The filing period started July 26 and ends Aug. 25 at noon.

Districts up for election in the Warsaw Community School Corp. include districts 1, 2, 5 and 7. As of Thursday morning, the only candidates who have filed for Warsaw include current school board president Ron Yeiter, district 1, and district 2 candidate Brad Hagg. Hagg is running for incumbent Cathy Folk's seat on the board. Folk has served two terms and cannot run for re-election. Tammy Dalton is the district 5 incumbent and Gene England is the district 7 incumbent.

The other Warsaw school board members, not up for election, are vice president Dan Robinson, Deb Wiggins and Chuck Sauders.

Wawasee candidates who filed as of Thursday include Marion Acton for district 3 and Mary Lou Dixon for district 2. Acton and Dixon are incumbents. The other board seat up for re-election is for district 1. Brian Dawes is the district 1 incumbent. Candidates must live in the district for which they are running for election.

The Wawasee at-large board members, who are not up for re-election this year, are George Gilbert and Dallas Winchester.

Indiana School Boards Association plans to conduct a school board candidate forum Sept. 12 in the Valparaiso High School auditorium. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. The program will be from 7 to 9 p.m. There is a $35 registration fee, payable at the door. There is no need to register in advance.
