A fight in a local bar Tuesday night progressed to the parking lot and ended after a shot was fired, police reports indicate.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and Warsaw Police Department are now in the process of sifting through witness statements and evidence to determine what happened in the incident and what charges - if any - to seek.
According to a police report from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, officers were dispatched to Homer's Hideaway around 10 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a fight in progress involving a gun.
A witness to the event, Don Barton, reportedly told police that a fight broke out at the pool table inside the bar. Once the parties involved were calmed down, one group was asked to leave. Shortly after, Barton heard someone say that something was going on in the parking lot and he went outside to investigate.
When he got outside, Barton heard people yelling at each other from a car and an sport utility vehicle in the parking lot. He said a man got out of the car and started waving a gun around.
Barton said he then tackled the man with the gun. A scuffle followed and the gun went off. After the gun went off, Barton said a group of people ran over to the unidentified man and started hitting him.
In the meantime, Barton ejected the magazine from the gun, put the gun in his pants and ran inside the bar and asked the bartender to call the police.
According to the same police report, Ed Marsillett went outside after hearing the gunshot. He was about 20 feet away from the scuffle when a 9mm magazine slid across the ground at him. Marsillett picked up the magazine and locked it in his pickup truck where he kept it until police arrived and he turned it over.
John Beer reportedly told police that he was leaving the bar when he got in an argument with a blonde-haired man. Beer said that the other man had the gun when it went off.
A fourth statement was received when Ryan E. Buchan went to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department to tell his side of the story.
Buchan said the he was in Homer's Hideaway with Tom Beer and John Beer when a fight broke out and the Beers were asked to leave. Buchan left with them and was in a vehicle when a man in an orange shirt tackled John Beer. Then Buchan heard a single gunshot and ran to his home across the road.
When officers arrived at the scene, a Smith and Wesson 9mm and a magazine with eight rounds still intact was taken as evidence. The incident is under investigation at this time.
