A Claypool fireman stomps out a section of fire while other firemen work in the background during Sunday afternoon's field fire along CR 600S, west of County Farm Road. According to Warsaw Fire Chief Matt Warren, grass fires are common in the spring because the wind is unpredictable. 'Wind can change dramatically,' said Warren. 'It can be going north one minute and west the next. Spring is the perfect time for things to get out of hand.' The best thing to do is refrain from burning, but if you must burn, do so against the wind. 'Open burning laws have changed recently,' said Warren. 'Contact your local fire department to see what they say' before attempting to burn grass or fields. Photo by Gary Nieter, Times-Union
