On Oct. 1, Fellowship Baptist Church, 1838 E. Kosciusko Drive, Warsaw, voted to change its name to Fellowship Church and join the Evangelical Free Church of America.
Fellowship Baptist Church was organized in February 1954 as Winona Lake Regular Baptist Church and later renamed Fellowship Baptist Church, according to a news release from the church. For 69 years, Fellowship Baptist has been a ministering presence in the community.
For over a year, Fellowship Church sought to affiliate with a larger fellowship of churches that best reflected its doctrine, polity and philosophy of ministry. The Evangelical Free Church of America is a fellowship of over 1,600 self-governed churches who share a common evangelical doctrinal statement and standard of community values. On Oct. 10, the Great Lakes District of the Evangelical Free Church of America voted to accept Fellowship Church into its association of churches.
Fellowship Church enters this shift led by its pastor of 26 years, Pastor Layne Sumner.
Layne said, "I am excited about this new chapter in the life of our church family, and I invite all who are looking for a church home to come and experience the warm fellowship of Fellowship Church."
