MENTONE – Fay Whetstone, 93, of Mentone, passed at 7:58 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2020, at her residence.
Fay was born on May 2, 1927, in Mentone, to the late Elmer D. and Esther R. Horn Sarber. She married on June 14, 1946, in Mentone, to Carl B. Whetstone, who preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1994.
She was a 1945 graduate of Mentone High School. After graduating, she began working at Manwaring’s for a few years. She then became a homemaker and helped, alongside her husband, on the family farm.
Fay had been a member of the Mentone United Methodist Church for nearly 70 years, where she served in many positions. She was active in the United Methodist Women, Sunday School, the choir, funeral dinners and Bible School. She was also a founding member of the Merry Mollies.
She enjoyed reading and the library. She was known as a baker, especially her old-fashion cream pie and her award-winning blueberry pie.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Webster, of Mentone; sons:?Mike and wife Sharon Whetstone, of Mentone; Tim and wife Cathy Whetstone, of Mentone; and Jerry and wife Angy Whetstone, of Akron; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Elmer and Esther Sarber; husband, Carl B. Whetstone; daughter-in-law, Cindy Whetstone; sister, Zelda Blackford; and brother, Gene Sarber.
Following county, state, federal and CDC guidelines, private family services will be held at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Jason Rice officiating. Private burial will take place in Mentone Cemetery, Mentone.
