Fatal Crash

Posted

An Etna Green woman was killed this morning when her car was rear-ended by a semi tractor/trailer at the intersection of U.S. 30 and CR 150W. Jill Carpenter, 33, of 118 E. High St., was pinned in her car after it was struck from behind by the semi rig while her car was stopped at the red light at McElroy Hill. Carpenter was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead from head and internal injuries. Police were already at the intersection investigating a property damage accident when the fatality occurred. An Indiana State Police trooper was reportedly using hand signals in an attempt to slow the semi rig down when the accident took place. The driver of the semi, Edwin Lynch, 47, of Springfield, Ohio, was not injured in the 7:30 a.m. accident. Both fog and bright sunlight were reportedly visible at the time of the accident. Information as to why Lynch didn't slow down for the traffic light was not yet available. The accident remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.
