Fatal Accident

Officials believe a man who burned in his car this morning may have died before his car left the roadway. The body of Robert Marsh, 58, of Seventh Street, Winona Lake, was found inside the charred remains of his car after firefighters extinguished the blaze. Marsh's car left the south side of Pierceton Road, west of CR 250E, and traveled more than one-quarter mile before striking several trees. The car was airborne for a short distance after leaving the road and apparently traveled at a high speed through the field, officials said, judging by the amount of damage caused by the impact. The vehicle's gas tank split open and exploded upon impact. The incident is under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department. Photo by Gary Nieter, Times-Union
