Fresh fruit, vegetables and plants are just some of the items that can be found at this year's Kosciusko County Farmer's Market.

The annual market opened Wednesday on the west side of the Kosciusko County fairgrounds.

The market runs until Oct. 31. Hours are Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 to 11 a.m.The market has been held at the fairgrounds for the past 30 years. There are 30 vendors expected at the market this summer, according to Lisa Hawley, Kosciusko County Farmer's Market president.

Hawley is owner of Hawley Farms, Claypool, and will sell items such as apples, peaches, green beans and pumpkins at the market.

Some of the other items that will be available for purchase include flowers, crafts, eggs, bread, noodles, frozen pork and beef.

Vendors are from Pierceton, Claypool, Warsaw, Mentone, Milford and Winona Lake.

There were 25 vendors at last year's market. Proceeds from this year's market will go to the vendors.

"The thing that is unique about the market is that all the produce is freshly grown in Kosciusko County," Hawley said.

She said purchasing items at the market is a great way to support local farmers.

Sonja Byrd, Warsaw, purchased eggs and herbs Wednesday and said she has been coming to the market for 15 years.

"The market is a blessing to me because the fruits and vegetables are fresh and I use them for canning," Byrd said.

Pam Roberts, owner of The Olde Farmhouse, Pierceton, said this is her fourth year for participating as a vendor at the market.

She said she will sell onions, cabbage, broccoli, peas, beets and radishes this summer.
