Government research shows it takes only five weeks for the average American to earn enough disposable income to cover an entire year’s food costs. Now in its 15th year, Food Check-Out Week highlights America’s safe, abundant and affordable food supply, made possible largely by America’s productive farmers and ranchers. According to the most recent (2011) information from the USDA’s Economic Research Service, American families and individuals spend, on average, less than 10 percent of their disposable personal income on food. As part of Food Check-Out Week, Kosciusko Farm Bureau sponsored a farm trivia question contest that was featured on both WRSW and WILLIE 103. The correct call-in answer to any of the 20 Farm Trivia questions asked yielded the caller a $25 gift card from Owens Super Market. Those 20 winners were then eligible for the $500 Owens Super Market gift card grand drawing. This $ 500 prize was sponsored by some of the Kosciusko County agricultural families: Clunette Elevator, Bishop Family Farms, Mt. Ruska Valley Family Farms and Crestview Family Farms.
