Family Saved By Smoke Detectors & PetsSmoke detectors and pets got a family up and out of the house when their Warsaw home caught fire early Sunday morning.

Atwood Fire Chief Chad Heckaman said Monday that the fire occurred around 2:35 a.m. Sunday at 4063 W. CR 100S, Warsaw. County records indicate the house is owned by Johnny E. Frame II.

By the time Atwood Fire arrived to the scene, the home and attached garage were fully engulfed. They were a total loss, Heckaman said. He said smoke detectors and the family’s dog and cat got the family up and everyone was able to get out safely.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Firefighters were on scene four to five hours.

Burket Fire Department was called in for a full assist to Atwood, and Warsaw was called for a tanker assist. Heckaman estimated that 40 to 45 firefighters were on scene. The American Red Cross gave the family assistance, and Mentone EMS also was on hand.
