At the top of her voice that little girl was singing "Jesus Loves Me This I Know" in the grocery store. Her daddy, pushing her baby brother in the cart said, "Honey, don't sing so loud." Being near them I said, "Please, let her sing her joy in Jesus." He did, and she did right through the checkout counter. I complimented the daddy for his family's training of the children.
How beautiful, sincere, and wholesome such a witness for her faith in Jesus. O that this basic, bold, and yet loving sweet witness is needed and multiplied everywhere by all ages of Christians.
In God's Word, the Bible, we become aware that He loves children so much that He says that the Kingdom Of God belongs to such as these. Mark l0:13-15. This includes all people regardless of age; wrinkled, bent, bearded, or bald. Only such as these are welcomed. God's image in them has not been dulled. In too many grownups the image of God has been dulled.
Grownups no longer grow and improve. Most have come to a full stop. It is disastrous. Children are on their way, struggling, sinning, and know they are sinning. They say so, and try not to sin anymore. They pray. They cry. They ask God's forgiveness and help.
Look into the eyes of 2- to 5-year-old children. There is nothing more beautiful. God lives in children and looks out through their eyes. And we smile with them.
God's Word says the child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 18:2-6, and that we adults must become childlike to enter therein.
So sad that we adults get hardened, old, dried up, stout. God wants to bring back to life the child in us. He want to give us the beautiful face of a child, even through the wrinkles, and the eyes of a child, even when they are rheumy and bland.
God loves youngsters. He wants everyone to be like them. Let's do it. Let's sing "Jesus Loves me this I know, For the Bible tells me so," today and tomorrow.
