Fairfield Gets Past Wawasee

SYRACUSE - Wawasee won the opening set, but dropped the last two against the Fairfield Falcons on Thursday in a 12-15, 15-11, 15-3 loss.

Sara Frantz had 17 assists, and Kara Mathew had eight kills and 16 digs. Lydia Carpenter added 13 of 14 serves with four kills.

The junior varsity team moved to 1-1 with a 15-11, 15-5 victory. Emily Cline had three kills, and Erica Auker added two kills.

Wawasee (1-1) will host Lakeland on Monday at 6 p.m.

Triton Over

Oregon-Davis 15-6, 15-12

At Bourbon, the Trojans improved to 1-1 on the season after dominating Oregon-Davis on Thursday.

Chris Scott had seven kills, and Heather Barron added 17 assists for Triton.

The junior varsity team also improved to 1-1 with a 15-6, 15-12 win. Emily Yankovich and Crystal Feldman each had four aces.

The Trojans will be at John Glenn on Thursday at 6 p.m.

At Huntington, Whitko opened the season with a three-set win over Huntington North on Tuesday.

Kelly Osborn had four service aces and 20 assists in the win.

The Whitko freshman team lost to Huntington North 15-11, 15-8.

Whitko will host Manchester Thursday at 6 p.m.

At Huntington, the Huntington North girls golf team defeated Warsaw on Wednesday 172-203. It was Warsaw's first loss of the year.

Ashley Cooper shot a 45 to lead Warsaw, but Jennie Helvie shot a 38 for medalist honors for Huntington North.

The junior varsity squad also lost by a score of 252-255. Lara Reed was the top scorer for Warsaw (2-3) with a 58.

Warsaw (5-1) will be at Plymouth with Northridge on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

At Bremen, Tippecanoe Valley got a victory from JayDee Parker and Mike Parker at No. 1 doubles, but Bremen defeated the Vikings in their season opener on Thursday.

Anne Brubaker scored the first ever goal by a NorthWood player in the 48th minute. An assist was added by Jessica Speed.

Head coach Rick Shipley saw some positives out of the experience.

"We played with a lot of intensity, but we need to continue to work on the fundamentals of passing and trapping," he said.
