Kosciusko County Community Fair T-shirts soon will be available at the fair office.
Monday night at the Kosciusko County Community Fair Board meeting, board members approved a motion to purchase 100 T-shirts to promote the yearly event. The gray shirts will have the fair logo and "2007" on the right front pocket area. The back of the garments will have a treasure chest with "Kosciusko Community Fair 'Treasures of Fun' July 9-14, www.kcfair.org" on the back in dark blue ink.
The shirts will be sold for $10 and will be available in the fair office once they have been made.
Volunteer and former board member Jerry Secrist gave a report on repairs needed at the fairgrounds. Two garage doors at the maintenance building need repaired and the gate at the entrance to the boat dock is badly damaged.
The front garage door at the maintenance building is falling apart on the bottom, and Secrist said it need to be repaired before someone gets hurt. Since the back door is not is good shape either, the board will look into repairing that as well.
The gate at the boat dock is broken off at the bottom, and it cannot be repaired by welding. An estimate to fix the gate was almost as much as it would cost to purchase a new one. The cost for the new gate is $229.18. A board member offered to try to repair the gate and strengthen the bottom of it. If the repair is unsuccessful, a new gate will be purchased.
Secrist also volunteered to build a concession stand by the grandstand area of the fairgrounds. In years past, tents have been used for concessions, but several tents have been ruined. The stand Secrist proposed would be a 16 foot by 14 foot lean-to style building. Materials to build the structure would cost $400, and Secrist said he would donate the metal for the building.
The board said once the garage door situation was remedied, they would see how much money was left. If there is enough money, the concession building would be approved.
The board also approved a motion to allow $1,000 to advertise the July 9 Jason Michael Carroll concert in the Fort Wayne and South Bend markets.
If funds are available, $500 to $1,000 may be used to advertise camping during the fair as well.
