Eye Bank

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

When Kirk was born, the doctor told his mother that he had deficient eyesight. An analysis by an eye specialist found that he had Peter's Anomaly, a malformation of the cornea and glaucoma in both eyes. Kirk is now 9 years old and has received multiple cornea transplants. Each time cornea tissue was provided by an Eye Bank for Sight Restoration.

The cornea has been called the front window of the eye. It is the clear outer covering of the eye, which is replaced in the corneal transplant with donor tissue. Synthetic tissue has not yet proven satisfactory. Hundreds of people in our nation are waiting for a human cornea to replace their defective one.

Inform a family member that you would like to donate your eyes to the Eye Bank at your death. You will thereby give sight to another person who is waiting for a human cornea to replace his defective one.
