WOLF LAKE - First- through third-grade girls can take part in a unique, end-of-summer nature experience at Mary Lea Environmental Learning Center in southwestern Noble County Aug. 8, while they meet other girls interested in becoming Girl Scouts.
Indiana Lakeland Council and naturalists from the Learning Center will lead girls in plant and animal exploration and lessons in basic fire building from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Almost as important will be training in s'more building over the campfires!
Girl Scouts are encouraged to bring a friend to the event for $6, during which they can earn their Eco-Explorer Try-It patch. Cost for girls who are not Girl Scouts is $16, which includes the program, the patch, lunch and year-long membership to the Girl Scouts. Adults are encouraged to attend with their girls and cost for them is just $3 for lunch.
Participants should wear clothes appropriate for the weather and shoes (not open-toed) for hiking. They also should take a hat, water bottle and camera (optional).
Registration deadline is Monday. Parents or guardians can call 574-533-8881, or toll free 866-223-7740 or check out www.indianalakeland.org to learn more or to register.
