The body of Kaelie Cusick was exhumed Friday morning as part of the ongoing investigation into her death. The 4-year-old died Aug. 12, 1996, in a fall down the stairs at her father's Cromwell home. The child's stepmother, Sherrie Cusick, 33, is charged with murder. The death investigation was reopened after a grand jury failed to indict Mrs. Cusick in the girl's death and new information later determined that Kaelie allegedly did not die accidentally. That grand jury, which convened Feb. 3, 1998, did indict Mrs. Cusick in the Nov. 23, 1996, death of 7-year-old Anthony Cusick, who died after a fire in a closet of the Cusick home. She also faces a murder charge in that case. An autopsy of Kaelie's remains is planned for Monday. Photo By Gary Nieter, Times-Union
