A former Warsaw Area Career Center teacher was arrested today on sexual misconduct charges after Warsaw Police Department investigated a complaint involving him and a 14-year-old female. Calvin Moser, 37, was arrested on Kosciusko County warrants for charges of sexual misconduct with a minor and child solicitation, both level 5 felonies. No bond is set and he is being held by the Tippecanoe County Jail until he is transported back to Kosciusko County. According to a press release from the Warsaw Police Department, on March 31, a WPD officer spoke with a representative of Warsaw Community Schools who advised they received information of inappropriate sexual contact between a male teacher, Moser, and a 14-year-old female student. It was further advised that Moser had provided the student with a Starbucks® gift card and she would often go to Moser’s classroom during lunch periods. School officials checked Moser’s computer and found multiple emails from the female student, which indicated her mother suspected an inappropriate relationship between the two. A WPD investigation into the allegations established probable cause showing Moser had engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with the girl. Additionally, it was discovered Moser had inappropriate conversations with several other juvenile female students. A press release from Warsaw Community Schools states that WCS is “committed to providing our students with a safe learning environment. To achieve this goal, Warsaw Community Schools maintains long-established procedures to guard against, investigate and report any conduct that may, in any way, create a potentially harmful situation to our students. If Warsaw Community Schools learns of any allegation of such conduct, we promise to undertake a prompt and thorough investigation and to impose appropriate disciplinary and remedial measures when necessary and appropriate to rectify the situation and protect our students.” After learning March 28 of allegations regarding a teacher’s possible unprofessional conduct with a female high school student, WCS immediately commenced an investigation, the release states. WCS also immediately reported these allegations to the appropriate authorities, including the local police, the Department of Child Services and the Indiana Department of Education. Moser was immediately suspended as a teacher in accordance with Indiana law and the process to terminate his employment was began. Moser is prohibited from interacting in any fashion with students and from being on school grounds. The WCS release states that subsequent investigations by law enforcement officials confirmed that the teacher unlawfully touched that student. On Monday, Moser was criminally charged and a warrant for his arrest was issued. WCS will continue to work closely with the local prosecutor and law enforcement officials as well as the effected students and parents, the WCS release states. To avoid interfering in any manner with the pending criminal matter, WCS must limit its comments. Additionally, federal and state privacy laws prevent WCS from commenting on this matter beyond this statement, the release states. “Our students’ safety and well-being are our utmost concerns. From the beginning, our focus is the best interests of our students. Rest assured that Warsaw Community Schools will undertake all measures to safeguard our children, who are our community’s future,” the release concludes.
