Evert E. Slone, 63, of Warsaw, passed away at 8:13 a.m. March 19, 2011, in his residence.
He was born Sept. 25, 1947, in Martin, Ky., to Lamon and Anniebell Robinson Slone. On June 22, 2002, he married Margaret Ann "Marge" Wood, who survives.
He was a 60-year Warsaw resident and worked for Zimmer Inc., Warsaw, for 29 years as a QA inspector. He was a member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, Warsaw.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served from 1966-69 in Vietnam and Germany with 670th Transportation Battalion, 1st Support Unit. In addition, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1969-72 and was honorably discharged as an SP 5 technical sergeant Aug. 31, 1972.
A member of Warsaw American Legion Post 49, he was the 2010-11 commander, served as past vice-commander, honor guard and past 40&8 member. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Warsaw Post 1126, Warsaw, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 15 and Warsaw Moose Lodge 1423.
Also surviving are two sons, Kyle Evert Slone, Canton, Ga., and Aaron Angelo (and spouse Janee "Nikki") Slone, Warsaw; his mother, Anniebell Slone, Warsaw; a brother, Randy (and spouse Jessie) Slone, Warsaw; two stepchildren, Kelly (and spouse John) Slone, Warsaw, and Craig (and spouse Kathy) Sierk, Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Austin Jacob Slone, Landon Carter Slone and one expected grandson due May 22, 2011; and step-grandchildren, Kallie Shephard and John Shephard Jr.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, 3651 N. Detroit St., Warsaw, with Pastors David Cripe and William Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with full military honors by members of Warsaw American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.
