Eugene Edmund Walenga, 84, of Warsaw, died at 4:45 p.m. Aug. 15, 2007, in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw.

He was born March 12, 1923, in Michigan City, to Joseph and Helen Oshinski Walenga. On May 17, 1947, in Michigan City, he married Theresa Przybylinski, who died in 1991.

He lived in the Michigan City area most of his life. He was superintendent of mails for the U.S. Postal Service, Michigan City, and worked for Jewel Food Stores for 15 years. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Michigan City, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw. He was a member of American Legion Skwait Post 451 and the Polish Businessmen's Association, both in Michigan City. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp as a staff sergeant during World War II.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Steven (Gail Walenga) Schultze, Santa Monica, Calif.; two sons, Gregory (and wife Julia) Walenga, Rolling Prairie, and Nicholas (and wife Beth) Walenga, Warsaw; five grandchildren, Nathan and Sarah Walenga, both of Rolling Prairie, and Heather, Ryan and David Walenga, all of Warsaw; and a great-grandson, Trent Gene Bowerson.

Services were Monday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Michigan City, with Father Walter Clesia officiating. Burial was in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, with military honors by members of American Legion Skwait Post 451.

Root Funeral Home, Michigan City, was in charge of arrangements.

McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, was in charge of local arrangements.
