ETNA GREEN - Town council members will do a walk-through of Heritage Park to determine what projects will be completed with remaining Economic Development Income Tax funds.
The council earmarked a portion of the EDIT money for repairs and upgrades to the park building and grounds.
Joanne Dean from Friends of Heritage Park presented a list of recommendations to the council during its Tuesday meeting. Among the wants of the Friends are to resurface the basketball and tennis courts and to install two new basketball goals on an existing cement slab, installing a light under the new canopy at the park building, establishing a parking area in a section of grass where people are already parking, repainting playground equipment and the park sign, replacing a holly bush with hostas and trimming bushes and replacing ceiling tiles in the kitchen area.
The Friends also are interested in the town seeking a grant from Kosciusko County Community Foundation for additional park projects.
The walk-through meeting will begin at 6 p.m. July 23 at Heritage Park, with a sit-down meeting to follow in the park building.
In other matters, the council:
Asked clerk-treasurer Laura Baker to send letters to property owners who are in violation of town ordinances.
Agreed to switch the Etna Elevator to large power status for billing purposes and approved a building permit for two new bins at the elevator.
Approved placement of a mobile home on a lot on High Street, pending clarification of the lot division. Charles Carpenter owns two lots at that location, one with a house on it and the other with a shop building. The mobile home will be placed on the lot with the shop.
Released the remaining $1,342 from the fire department equipment to be applied toward a $1,675 bill for new radios. Etna Township Fire Department Assistant Chief Bob Haines said the remainder of the bill will be paid from fire department funds.
Learned that Mark Giacobassi was voted onto the fire department as a full-time firefighter and that Nickole Hardy joined the department as its first female firefighter. She is on probationary status.
Approved the $420 cost of sending Barry Baker to school in preparation for his WT3 water certification testing. Baker will choose one of the 12-week courses to be completed prior to the November testing.
The Etna Green Town Council meets at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the fire station meeting room. Council members are Eileen Hall, Jeff Klinefelter and Andy Cook.
