Etna Green Grant Request Denied

Posted
ETNA GREEN - Todd Slabaugh, town council president of Etna Green, received a letter Tuesday stating that the grant application for a new severe weather siren had been denied once again.

The council discussed other options in attempts to optimize the use of their current siren. Laura Baker proposed that the town sound the siren every Friday at noon. This will help keep the siren operational and prepared for use.

Jay Rigdon brought to the town's attention the need to gain ownership over the mural in Remembrance Park. The council determined that the building the mural is on will be up for auction at the end of the month. The council instructed Laura Baker to seek out different options to obtain the funds necessary to purchase the building.

Baker proposed that the town transform the building into a senior center or community center.

The council approved a request from Gary Baker for $450 for flowers and fertilizer to be used at Remembrance Park.

Andy Cook discussed the need to repair several roads in town by either patching or repaving the areas. Cook will seek out quotes and the best mode to repair the spots.

Barry Baker requested permission to seek out quotes regarding replacement of power lines and poles along High Street. Baker said the replacement is not totally necessary, but High Street has copper lines. He said copper lines are much more fragile and are at a high risk for snapping in high winds.

Hydrant flushing will be April 27 through 29 and large trash pick up is scheduled for May 18 and May 25.

Rigdon donated four new basketball nets for use at Heritage Park on behalf of the law offices of Rockhill and Pinnick.
