MENTONE - Ethel I. Blackburn, 95, formerly of Mentone, died at 8:05 a.m. June 9, 2010, in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw, where she resided for seven years.
She was born Aug. 3, 1914, in Kosciusko County, to Everett and Retha A. Strong Clemans. Her foster parents are Charles and Bertha Meredith. On Nov. 19, 1932, in Warsaw, she married William "Shiney" Blackburn, who died Jan. 7, 1998.
A lifetime Mentone area resident, she was a farm wife and a graduate of Mentone High School. She was a member of Mentone United Methodist Church. She enjoyed doing word find puzzles and playing bingo.
Surviving are two sons, Max (and spouse Betty) Blackburn, Mentone, and Jerry (and spouse Ann) Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Audrey Blackburn, Elkhart; three grandchildren: Debra (and spouse Jim) McFadden, Mentone; Greg (and spouse Ligia) Blackburn, Los Gatos, Calif.; and Angela (and spouse Randy) Lewis, Sarasota, Fla.; four great-grandchildren: Megan (and spouse Kyle) Robinson and Jenna McFadden, all of Indianapolis; Kasandra (and spouse Wayne) Worrell, Muncie; and Justin Blackburn, Los Gatos, Calif.; and a great-great-granddaughter, Sophia April Worrell, Muncie. She was preceded in death by two sons, William C. "Bill" and Larry Lee Blackburn; three grandsons, Jeff, Mike and Kevin Blackburn; two sisters, Florence Fenstermacher and Georgetta Burns; and three brothers, Doyle, James and George Clemans.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at King Memorial Home, 101 North Tucker St., Mentone, with Chaplain Robert Jarboe officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery.
Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
