I applaud Mitch Daniels for speaking his opinion on the ethanol refinery proposed for Milford. I also believe that he said it best after he gave his support to the citizens of Milford by saying, "ethanol truly is a plus for this state" and "we care about small towns and we are bound to push forward."
One way we can push forward is to allow this plant to come into production. It would allow 40 jobs, and for Milford that is a great accomplishment. I can only imagine how nice it would be to a restaurant owner to be able to serve truckers 24/7, and to a gas station owner to be able to sell E85 at a discounted price and tell the customer just how this fuel is helping the local economy.
If this plant doesn't go through, what is going to happen to those people who have to drive to a bigger town just to get little things like groceries or gas just because it is not possible to keep a grocery store open in Milford? This probably won't be an instant change, but change will come. Ethanol has been known to do great things in communities.
I also think the smells of an ethanol plant are overrated. Many say it smells like baking bread or beer. Seems like a good deal to me.
