WRSW station manager Patrick Brown announced this week that GBC Media has acquired the broadcast rights for the 2001 NASCAR Winston Cup Series through the Motor Racing Network.

MRN coverage of the 2001 Winston Cup Series will be heard on ESPN 1480.

"The passion that NASCAR fans have for the sport and their favorite drivers is so obvious," ESPN 1480 sports director Roger Grossman said. "Look around. You can't walk down the street without seeing someone who is wearing either a hat or jacket or something that has to do with NASCAR racing. We're excited, and we know that NASCAR fans in our area will associate NASCAR coverage with ESPN 1480."

ESPN 1480's coverage will include 30 MRN races and related events, beginning with the "Great American Race," the Daytona 500 from the Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 18. ESPN 1480's NASCAR package also includes a Monday morning two-minute review of the racing weekend. An air time for this report has not been determined.

"We will carry all of the MRN races, and our daily ESPN Radio programming will cover news and events surrounding the NASCAR circuit," Grossman said. "NASCAR fans are knowledgeable, and they want to know as much as possible about their drivers and what's happening off the track. Now they'll get that on a day-in, day-out basis."

"We also know that NASCAR fans will turn the radio on and listen to MRN race coverage while they watch the race on television."
