SYRACUSE – Ernest Lamar “Ernie” Knight, 75, Syracuse, was called home by our heavenly Father at 2:15 p.m. July 31, 2015, at Courtyard Healthcare in Goshen, following a six-month illness. He was born June 12, 1940, in Goshen, to James Edward Trainor and Lucille Daisy Knight. In 1988, he married Donna Marie Haggerty Smith, who preceded him in death in 2005. He attended Goshen public schools and was a lifetime Goshen/Syracuse area resident. He retired in 2002 from Syracuse Rubber Company after 32 years of service. He was of the Catholic faith and called bingo at local bingo halls. Survivors are: a daughter, Wendy Gay Boggs, Sebring, Fla.; two sons, Patrick Christopher (and spouse Linda) Knight, El Paso, Texas; and Eric Lamar (and spouse Sara) Knight, Goshen; six stepdaughters, Kay Caudill, Syracuse; Peggy (and spouse Donald) Caudill, Elkhart; Becky Barraza, Texas; Beverly (and spouse James) Phillips, Edwardsburg, Mich.; Della Rieth, Syracuse; and Michelle (and spouse Jim) Hamilton, Elkhart; two stepsons, Bennie Morse, Syracuse; and Chris Smith, Warsaw; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Phyllis Fackler, Syracuse. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Lee Knight; two sisters, Betty Ringler and Linda Hoover; and a brother, Lawrence Knight. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, with Father Tony Steinbacker of the St. John’s Catholic Church, Goshen, officiating.
