NAPPANEE - Ernest "Ernie" A. Slabaugh, 89, of 402 N. Main St., Nappanee, died at 4:46 p.m. Sept. 11, 2007, in Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born March 16, 1918, in Kosciusko County, to Woodie and Gladys Long Slabaugh. On Sept. 26, 1938, in Nappanee, he married Lois Carl, who survives.
He was a graduate of Best School. He was a lineman for Nappanee Electric Utility, a public service man for NIPSCO and a custodian for Nappanee City Hall from 1984 until retirement in 2006.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. David (Kim) Ingle, Nappanee; four sons, Danny, Billy, Jody and Mikel Slabaugh, all of Nappanee; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers, three sisters, a stepbrother and a stepsister.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with the Rev. Ruben Chupp officiating. There will be cremation. Inurnment will be in South Union Cemetery, Nappanee.
