WABASH – Ernest E. “Smoke” Powell, 62, of rural Lincolnville, died at 2:40 p.m. Jan. 5, 2013, in Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. He was born Aug. 27, 1950, in Wabash, to William Kenneth “Kenny” and Christine Edmonds Powell. On March 27, 1981, in Wabash, he married Lori Fryer Kieninger, who survives. He worked at Exel, Bunker Hill, for the past three years; Zimmer, Warsaw, for 17 years; and Brown, Wabash, for 21 years. A lifelong Lincolnville resident, he was a member and the former chief of the Lincolnville Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed tinkering on tractors and machinery and he designed and built his own log splitter. He enjoyed fishing, skeet shooting, being outdoors and especially loved his grandchildren. Also surviving are five children: Steven K. Kieninger and Dereka (and spouse Shaun) Samuel, all of Wabash; Michael E. (and spouse Trisha) Powell, Bronson, Iowa; Casa (and spouse Donny) Goff, Edgerton, Ohio; and Cindy Stellar, Huntington; 10 grandchildren; a great- grandchild; two brothers, William Kenneth (and spouse Susie) Powell, Wabash, and Steven (and spouse Carolyn Myers) Powell, Roann; and a sister, Linda (and spouse Terry) Sloan, LaFontaine. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash, with Pastor Doug Barton officiating. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery, Lincolnville.
