Erma Jean WaltersAKRON – Erma Jean Walters, 93, of rural Akron, passed at 9:25 a.m., Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, at Woodlawn Hospital of Rochester.

Erma was born on April 26, 1926, in Culver, to the late Daniel and Eva Myers Burkett. She was married on Aug. 13, 1949, in Rochester, to Kenneth R. Walters, who preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 2018.

Erma had been a cook for Akron School, retiring after 25 years, as well as being a homemaker. She graduated from Argos High School in 1944. She had been a member of the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church for many years. She always loved spending time with her grandchildren and taking golf cart rides. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre.

Erma is survived by daughters: Debbie and husband John Gray, Akron; LuAnn and husband Stan Tennant, Warsaw;                    Lisa and husband Jerry Kipker, Warsaw; grandchildren: Lori Busenburg, Jeff Gray, Mindy Bernicky, Brad Tennant and Brian Tennant; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth R. Walters; and a brother, Devon Burkett.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 2 at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. Funeral services will be at  10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 3 at the funeral home with Pastor Butch Troke officiating. Burial will be at Akron Cemetery, Akron.
