Editor, Times-Union: If the EPA suffers a blow, it hits all of us who wish to continue to have clean water and clean air. Clean water is not a given. Clean water, in our area, is constantly being compromised by run off from huge CAFOS and industry. Some people knowingly contaminate. Others do not see the long-term consequences of their actions until it is too late. In an article, in The Hoosier Farmer, a paper published by Farm Bureau, they are celebrating a ruling against the EPA and The Clean Water Act. What is there to celebrate? The headline was, “Farmers prevail in the court decision on EPA livestock rules.” It should have read, “Big CAFO farmers prevail in the court decision on EPA livestock rules.” Most legitimate farmers use good land conservation. I used to think that the prophesy about man creating his own destruction meant that we would create such a hostile environment that it would blow up. That would be a lot more merciful than what is really happening. When our clean water no longer exists, we are all doomed. Marjorie Vance Claypool, via e-mail
