Susan D. Engelberth is seeking the Kosciusko County assessor seat in the May primary. Engelberth is seeking the position being vacated by Laurie Renier, who is not seeking re-election. “I believe that due to my strong work ethic and integrity, coupled with my course instruction and assessing experience, I am qualified to be your next Kosciusko County assessor,” Engelberth said in her candidacy announcement. She said the decision to run for assessor has been made with prayer and support from her family and friends. Engelberth started her assessing career at the Tippecanoe Township assessor’s office in February 1999 as a real estate and personal property deputy. In January 2004, she advanced to chief deputy. She transferred to the Wayne Township assessor’s office in may 2007. Then in July 2008, when all township offices were closed by the state, she was hired by the county assessor’s office as a real estate deputy. She was promoted to the chief deputy position in June 2012. She has lived in Kosciusko County her entire life and graduated from Wawasee High School. Her husband, Eric, works in sales, service and repair at a local family owned business. Their daughter, Emily, is a special education teacher, and their youngest son, Ryan, teaches elementary school. They have eight grandchildren. They are involved in their church and are members of Gideons International. They have been married for 37 years and have three grown children. Their oldest son, Matthew, is a mechanical engineer and a business owner. She is a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers.
