Engel Reveals Tragic Story Of Bronte Family During Annual KLS Dinner

Dr. Elliot Engel reveals the tragic story of the Bronte family during the Seventh Annual Author Dinner benefiting literacy in Kosciusko County.
Kosciusko Literacy Services is hosting the Seventh Annual Author Dinner at the Tippecanoe Country Club Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. The dinner raises funds to provide literacy services.
Tickets are $85, of which $60 is tax deductible as allowed by law. For tickets or for information on sponsoring the event, call 574-267-5380.

With his witty and insightful speaking style, Engel explores the extraordinary lives of the Bronte family. The evening will highlight Charlotte and Emily Bronte, the sisters who wrote two enduring English novels, "Jane Eyre" and "Wuthering Heights." Engel explores the works and lives of the Brontes and leaves the audience entertained and spellbound.
Engel explains how the unusual background of the Bronte family contributed to the development of the Bronte children and to their writing careers. Beginning with the marriage and professional pursuits of Mr. Bronte, Engel sets the stage for the tragic story of Charlotte, Emily, Anne and Branwell.Charlotte Bronte is credited for creating the first realistic, English literature heroine in Jane Eyre. Today, the novel remains on the bestseller list in the classic fiction genre. Originally hated by critics, Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights" is currently considered one of the greatest novels in the English language.
Kosciusko Literacy Services focuses on all aspects of literacy and provides literacy programming for Kosciusko County residents from birth to senior citizens. The mission of the KLS is to increase the literacy levels of all citizens of the community by implementing innovative and comprehensive programs using a collaborative effort from the community; increasing public awareness of literacy issues facing adults, children and families; and providing trained volunteer tutors for the adult students.
In addition to tutors, KLS also provides books to preschoolers from low-income families, positive incentives for children to read and books for classroom libraries. KLS also facilitates the community book read, The Big Read.
