MILFORD - An employee of Serenade Foods, Milford, was airlifted to Parkview Hospital Sunday after he was struck in the head with a piece of metal after a boiler exploded.

According to Janelle Deatsman, communications manager for Maple Leaf Farms, which owns Serenade Foods, the employee was conducting routine maintenance on the boiler in a room in the facility when the incident occurred.

Deatsman said emergency personnel responded quickly to the incident that occurred just before 5 p.m. Sunday.

The employee, whose name was not released, was flown to Parkview Hospital, but he is expected to recover.

Production at Serenade Foods was shut down today and it is not yet known whether it will resume Tuesday.
