Emmert Franklin Rice, 79, of North Manchester, and formerly of Chicago, Ill., died at 7:35 p.m. July 26, 2010, in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester.

He was born Dec. 15, 1930, in Burkettsville, Md., to Aaron and Estie Guyton Rice. On June 15, 1957, he married Dorothy Wenger, who survives.

He was a forecast analyst for Sears Roebuck, Chicago, for 30 years. He was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren. He earned a bachelor's degree in music education from Bridgewater College and attended Bethany Seminary, Chicago.

Also surviving are a son, Dwayne (and spouse Sherry) Rice, Lake Villa, Ill.; two daughters, Sharon (and spouse Fred Galluzzo) Rice, Elmhurst, Ill., and Diane (and spouse James) Mikols, Westmont, Ill.; a brother, Ernest (and spouse Phyllis) Rice, Westminster, Md.; two sisters, Eileen Stall, Walkersville, Md., and Pauline Duble, Thurmont, Md.; and a grandchild. He was preceded in death by four sisters.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Timbercrest Chapel, North Manchester, with Pastor Kurt Borgmann officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Manchester Church of the Brethren Memorial Garden.

Calling is one hour prior to the service Sunday at Timbercrest.
