NAPPANEE – Ember E. Kern, 99, of Nappanee, died at 9:45 a.m. July 22, 2013, at Elkhart Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 20, 1914, in Nappanee, to Otto F. and Bessie Robinson Stout. In December 1931, she married Henry Earl Kern, who died in September 1969. She was a lifetime resident of Nappanee. She had worked in the war ammunition plant in Nappanee and Huffman Bakery. She also had been a telephone operator for the Nappanee Phone Company. She was a member of the First Brethren Church and an honorary member of the Nappanee American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Ann (and spouse James) Burt, Arizona; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a son. Services will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. ***** Memorials may be given to the Elder Haus in Nappanee.
