NAPPANEE - Elvina J. McCleary, 83, formerly of Warsaw, died at 10:55 p.m. Nov. 10, 2008, in Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa, where she resided.
She was born April 24, 1925, in Kosciusko County, to Elmer Lloyd and Leota Elder Myers Jay. On Feb. 16, 1946, in Warsaw, she married Donald McCleary, who died June 29, 1997.
She moved to Elkhart from Warsaw in 1998, and was a Warsaw High School graduate. She was a secretary for Washington Elementary and Warsaw High School and worked at the Kosciusko County Extension Office. She was a member of Leesburg United Methodist Church and attended Jamestown United Methodist Church. She was involved in Church Community Services and helped with teas for the Ruth Program.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy (and spouse Steve) LaSuer, Nashville, Tenn., and Becky (and spouse Gary) Buss, Elkhart; two sons, Brian (and spouse Rhonda) McCleary, Warsaw, and Mike McCleary, Mentone; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a half sister, Francis Ross, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by a grandson, a brother, a sister and a half sister.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with the Rev. David Henry officiating. Burial will be in Leesburg Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
