Ellis ShepherdMENTONE – Ellis Shepherd, 82, of rural Akron, passed at 1:07 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.
Ellis was born on Jan. 22, 1939, in Kentucky, to the late Ranel and Verna Shepherd Shepherd. He was married on Dec. 9, 1967, to Sandra Rathbun; she survives.
Ellis worked for 50 years for Midwest Spring and Stamping of Mentone. He served his community as a member of the Mentone Volunteer Fire Department for 50 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, car racing and spending time with his granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Shepherd, of Akron; children: Todd and wife Shannon Shepherd, of Rochester; Scott and wife Lori Shepherd, of Warsaw; Josh and wife Stephanie Shepherd, of Akron; Ashley and husband Daryn Cordes, of Roann; Pam and husband David Girouard, of Warsaw; and Dan and wife Sonia Shepherd, of Warsaw; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and siblings: Edith and husband Bill May, Janice and husband Richard May, Asenath and husband Brent Julian, Donna and husband Gary Konkle, Judy Blackburn, Betsy and husband Frank May, Penny and husband Terry Valentine, Karen and husband Rick Owens, Joyce and husband Larry Blanton, Randy and wife Susan Shepherd and Kenny and wife Julie Shepherd.
Ellis was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation hour will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone. The funeral service will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17 at King Memorial Home, Mentone, with chaplain Kyle Miller officiating.
The interment will take place in the Mentone Cemetery, Mentone.
