NORTH WEBSTER – Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Plew, 68, North Webster, passed away at 8:01 p.m. Feb. 17, at her residence after a two-year battle with cancer. She was born to Hubert J. and Catherine Stallkamp Burger. On May 21, 1993, in Warsaw she married Thomas R. “Tom” Plew, who survives and moved to the North Webster area from Fort Wayne. She grew up in Delphos, Ohio, and graduated from St. John High School. She was the former owner/operator of Silhouette Beauty Salon in Van Wert, Ohio. She was a successful advertising sales representative for Wawasee 103.5 radio station in Syracuse and the Columbia City Post and Mail from where she retired in 2007. She was blessed with a gift for conversation and wit. She was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Warsaw, and was the past director and secretary of the Webster Lake Conservation Association. She was a master gardener, longtime volunteer and secretary of the North Webster Food Pantry and a 2013 Kosciusko County Heart of Gold nominee. She traveled often in past years and visited such out-of-the-way places as Libya, Bosnia, Egypt and Ukraine. Also surviving are a son, Scott Douglas Schaffer, North Webster; two stepsons, Ehren (and spouse Holly) Plew, Valparaiso, and Cameron (and spouse Christa) Plew, Warsaw; a granddaughter, Caroline Plew; and a brother, Robert (and spouse Beth) Burger, Hampden, Mass. She was preceded in death by her parents. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1720 E. Center St., Warsaw, with Pastor Robert Bruckner officiating. Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Friday in North Webster Cemetery.
