Electrical Problem Blamed As Cause In A.M. House FireA fire Tuesday morning at 411 W. Perry St., Warsaw, is being blamed on an electrical problem in the attic.
Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory Public Information Officer Max Kinsey said the home is owned by Jesse Rivera. Rivera, his daughter, his son-in-law and three kids were at home at the time of the fire but no one was injured.
The daughter smelled something odd at about 5 a.m. Tuesday, but went back to bed. When she woke up and her husband got home from work, they smelled smoke in the house and contacted the fire department. Firefighters arrived a little before 8 a.m.
When the fire department arrived, Kinsey said light smoke from the gables was showing, but there was very little fire. It was under control in 15 minutes, though firefighters stayed on scene for about 2.5 hours.
Assisting the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory at the scene were Winona Lake Fire Department, Lutheran EMS and American Red Cross. The Red Cross is assisting the family with a place to stay as the electricity has to be turned off until an electrician can check it out.
