Electric Consumer Hosts Calendar ContestElectric Consumer hosted its 23rd annual student calendar contest for the 2021 cooperative calendar.

The contest provides young Hoosier artists an opportunity to express themselves and develop their artistic talent while possibly earning cash prizes and statewide acclaim. The constest is statewide, open to all grade levels K-12, according to a news release from Electric Consumer. Each grade level competes for their designated month; first grade gets January, second grade has February, etc. Artwork from all over Indiana was entered in the contest.

Several Whitko Jr./Sr. High School students won an award of merit, which means these students make the first round of judging in their grade division. Judges only choose the best 25 from each grade level for the award. Winning Whitko artists recipients included Nathaniel Moore, Cai Davis, Slater Craig, Hannah Brown, 10th grade; Haliee Bennett, Taro Ejiri, Matthew Collier, Abby Arter, 11th grade; Ella Kay Danner, 12th grade.

Whitko also won the top honors for the 10th-grade division, October artist of the month, in the state contest. Sophomore Elizabeth Miller was awarded a $200 cash prize.

This year, the winners will be presented in the November of Indiana Connection.

The winning works will also be viewable on the website IndianaConnection.org.

Miller’s Work, along with other winning pieces, will be part of the annual Hoosier Salon Art Exhibit from Aug. 29 to Oct. 25 at the Indiana State Museum.
