Editor, Times-Union: Anyone who has been following politics for the last decade or so should realize that you don't have to be smart or experienced to get elected to any office in our government. It seems to me all you need is to be well connected with the money. Here lies the problem. I like that word lie it has two meanings and they both fit here.
We have another election coming up and I think it is very important for the people of this city to get out and show they won't let our town be ruled by a single group. In the Times-Union the other day there was a story about one of our candidates being called to a home of one of our city council members. The candidate says he was called upon to be persuaded not to run. The council member says he wanted to give advice to the candidate. Now... I smell fish! When you clearly support the man from your party why in the world in my opinion would you call a contender and give him advice? This is our problem here we have people that think they can throw their weight around when they want to and get away with it. Well the buck stops here! The last primary was a fraud and I am not going to let it go away. There was a man on the ticket that clearly lives outside our city and he was aloud [sic] to run while everyone looked away in my opinion to draw votes away from that parties chosen candidate.
We are going to get our city back if it's the last thing I do! I have not heard one proposal by our current front runner for mayor. A job that pays all told well over $100,000 per year. He has not shared one single idea of how he will lead our city. Why? because in my opinion he doesn't have any ideas of how to get companies to come to our area or how to cut our taxes.
Our current mayor says taxes are low here but that's a joke. Anyone with rental properties or a newer house pays through the nose. Our downtown businesses are trying to compete with tax abated huge stores that have the big bucks. We haven't been trying to grow our downtown we are trying to squeeze them out of business with unaffordable unfair tax rates. What we have been doing is spending money, not going out to lure companies to make products in our area.
Forget the city limits. We need jobs in this county that are not related to the medical field. Warsaw and our awesome lakes are the jewel of Indiana.
Jerry Opperud and some of the other people in his camp are going to spend our time pulling them here like candy to a baby. We just need to have the chance to do it and you can give it to us all on Nov 8th.
I pray you vote with your head and not your heart. Joe Thallemer is a great guy! I would let him fit me for glasses anytime but I think it's time to give someone else a chance to really lead our beloved town.
