U.S. Senator Richard Lugar tops the the Tuesday primary election ballot on the Republican ticket. His name will be there on the general election ballot, too, because he is unopposed.
U.S. Congressman Mark Souder is being challenged not only by fellow GOP member William Larson. Democrats Kevin Boyd, Thomas Hayhurst, Thomas Schrader and Edward Smith will battle for the national seat as well.
State Senator Gary Dillon is unopposed.
State representative Dave Wolkins is unchallenged but incumbents William Ruppel and William Friend are challenged by Democrats. Ruppel will face either Allen Dunnagan or Larry Rensberger in November. Friend's sole competitor is Christopher Rahe.
At the county level running unopposed are Rex Reed, 54th Circuit Court Judge; Steven Hearn, prosecuting attorney; and Laurie Renier, assessor.
Three Republicans want to be county auditor - Marsha McSherry, Luke Rodriguez and Marie Sarber.
Three Republican candidates want the Southern District commissioner's post: Christy Carpenter, Robert conley and Avis Gunter.
Four individuals are running for sheriff - Democrat Jim Bumbaugh will face one of the following three Republicans - Louis "Bill" Brown, William "Rocky" Goshert or Samuel Whitaker.
Republicans Judith Snipes and Deborah Wulliman are running for the recorder's seat.
County council members Charlene Knispel - District 1, Harold Jones - District 2, and Brad Tandy - District 3, are unopposed. Incumbent John Kinsey faces fellow Republican George Klinger for the council's District 4 seat.
Three Republicans have filed for the Tippecanoe Township Assessor's post: Dorothy Biesemeyer, Stephanie Esenwein and Janice Williams.
Republican Susan Stookey is unopposed as the Plain Township Assessor; Patty Gammiere of Turkey Creek and Kristy Mayer of Wayne are unopposed on the GOP's primary ballot.
Several township trustee races only have one candidate. Candidates are Republican unless indicated as a Democrat with a "(D)."

Voters will select from three Republican candidates for the Wayne Township Trustee's office: LaShawn Brumfield, Sheila Burner and Daniel Slone; two Republicans for Tippecanoe Township: Thomas Reiff and Alyssa Schmucker; and two Republicans for Jackson Township: Joseph Kinch and Gwendolyn Ostrom.
