Election Issues

Editor, Times-Union:
A number of letters to the editor this election cycle have been critical of both presidential candidates, to which I agree. We could do better than these.
The election, though, is much more and bigger than just these two people. It’s senators, members of Congress, judges, governors of states, other state officials, county and local offices that all have power to set laws and rule over us.
It’s interesting to look at the platform both parties have established, what they stand for and their agenda.
Sanctity of human life: Democrats work for the abortion industry. GOP supports the sanctity of human life.
Marriage: Democrats support no restrictions on marriage whatsoever. GOP supports marriage as being between one man and one woman.
Religious freedom: Democrats support a progressive vision of religious freedom that respects pluralism. The GOP affirms the religious freedoms in the Bill of Rights.
Federal judges: Democrats will appoint judges who will promote anything and everything is OK with abortion, gender change, etc. GOP supports the appointment of justices and judges who respect the constitutional limits on their power and respect the authority of the state.
I don’t have space to list the differences between the party platforms on terrorism, human rights, immigration, law and order, internet safety and decency, addressing poverty, Israel and Jerusalem. I would ask all who read this, especially those in our community who call themselves believers, to check out the respective party platforms. Most are totally opposite of each other. It should make your decision easy. Then vote!
