An elderly woman was badly hurt early today after being trampled by a herd of cattle at her rural Warsaw farm.
Medics were called just after 8 a.m. today to a home at 735 E. CR 450S, Warsaw, after a man called 911 saying a woman had been trampled by cattle on her farm.
Crews arrived to find a woman suffering from broken ribs, a fractured tibia, fibia and femur, and several contusions and bruises. The woman’s name was not released by police.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, the elderly woman had been helping a cow that had gotten its head stuck in fencing in the barnyard when the cow shifted and knocked her to the ground. In the process, the barn yard gate was opened and as the contained cattle rushed out, the woman was trampled, the sheriff’s department said.
The woman was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Two sheriff’s department deputies and Kosciusko County Animal Control Officer Jerry Clace worked to round up 30 cows that had escaped from the enclosure, the department said.
