Elder-Beerman's Community Day Saturday raised almost $11,000 for local charities and service organizations. Local groups sold tickets for $5 each, which included five coupons for $10 off each $50 purchase. Each group retained the money they collected from the ticket sales. Money collected by Elder-Beerman ticket sales was pro-rated among the participants. None of the money collected for the tickets went to the store.
Community Day is an event held throughout the Elder-Beerman chain, which this year was the same day as a special 14-hour sale, giving customers even more savings while benefiting local not-for-profit groups.
Area participants who benefited were: Kosciusko County 4-H, Silver Lake 4-H, 4-H Junior Neighbors, Lambda Chi Omega, CASA, Packerton Community Association, Cardinal Center Inc., Heartline Pregnancy Center, Mental Health Association, Boys Scout Troop 729, Our Father's House, Warsaw Lions, Kosciusko County Extension Choir, Lakeland Middle School, North Webster Day Care, Kosciusko Board of Realtors, Lake City Skiers, Arthritis Foundation, American Cancer Society, BPA of Whitko Schools and Kosciusko Literacy Services.
The next Community Day will be in March. Any local groups interested in participating should contact Cathy Huntley or Phyllis Benka at Elder-Beerman, 371-2550, dial "0."
Friends and Family Day, to thank the community, will be Nov. 18, the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Special coupons, for an extra 20 percent off with no exclusions, will be available at the store after Nov. 10. Special hours that Sunday will be noon to 11 p.m.
Andrea Hayes, local Elder-Beerman manager, said, "With everything going on, we are gratified that we can offer something extra to people in Warsaw. One of our primary goals is to help keep the Warsaw community vibrant."
