Eisenhower Elementary recently held an Olympic-themed walk-a-thon. The students collected donations from family, friends and neighbors. With the help of the community, the school surpassed its goal of $11,000. The top three ‘Olympiads’ (pictured) were Ian Peloza, gold, receiving a Kindle Fire donated by REMC; Kalista Bartol, silver, receiving a $75 gift card to Kohl’s donated by the Times-Union; and Ananaya Jain, bronze, receiving a $50 gift card donated by Walmart. Each classroom was given a different country to study for a couple of weeks, and during the opening ceremony the students entered with their countries waving their flag creations. Students, staff and family members were invited to walk the half hour around the outside of the school all led by Principal Chris Gensinger with his makeshift torch. Rabb Kinetico donated the water that refreshed everyone after walking. They had a closing ceremony after the walk announcing the top three classrooms who received a Betty's Cake Shop Party (donated by Betty's), a Sno-Cone party and a popcorn party.
