Eisenhower Student Council Volunteers Their Time

Posted
The Eisenhower Elementary School Student Council members have several service projects going on during the school year.

One project is a weekend backpack program called "Eating Eagles".

This program is serving 17 children in seven families. The students take home an extra backpack filled with food for the weekend and bring the empty backpack to school on Monday to be filled again for the weekend.

Another major project the student council has participated in was to donate their time to serve others at the Community Kitchen held at the First United Methodist Church at the corner of Indiana and Market streets in Warsaw.

The 18 student council members were divided into two groups with the first nine serving the community from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 28, and the second nine serving the community from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 24.

The members partnered with Warsaw Community Church members to help serve due to the student council's limited time.

The students enjoyed their time with community members, manning the dessert and drink tables, clearing tables and drying dishes and mingling with the community.

The students enjoyed this service project so much that they have requested to return to the community kitchen on their own time during Christmas vacation Dec. 22.The student council consists of representatives from fifth and sixth grade. Representing the student body in sixth grade are Celeste Clayson, Jessica Keyes, Brooke Lane, Xitlalli Malagon, Brayden Sammons and Jacob Strickland.

Representing the student body in fifth grade are Jasmine Baker, Eric Firstenberger, Audrey Hansen, Zach Howard, Madeline Kosins, Lauren Kuhl, Eliza Kuhn, Darby McDairmant, Taylor Mills, Hannah Rice, Hannah Williams and Grant Wolfe.

The student council is sponsored by Jenny Ransbottom and Stefanie Shafer.
