Eight Women Will Compete For Miss Apple Blossom

NAPPANEE - Eight contestants will compete for Miss Apple Blossom during the Nappanee Apple Festival Scholarship Pageant Saturday at 7 p.m. at the NorthWood High School Auditorium.The new queen will receive a $1,000 scholarship. First runner-up/princess obtains a $750 scholarship; third place princess will be given a $500 scholarship.

The contestants will be judged on biographical information, stage presence, interview and an essay on "Why I like the Apple Festival." The judges also will be looking for a contestant who will provide a bridge between youth and the Nappanee business community; become a positive role model for Nappanee's youth; represent Nappanee throughout Elkhart County in a positive manner; be an ambassador for the Apple Festival - this year and next, and possess a high level of communications and public speaking capabilities.

Coming all the way from Illinois will be Master of Ceremony Barry Houser, former NorthWood band director.

The NorthWood High School contestants are: Alexis Anglemeyer, 15, sophomore, Miss McCormick Creek Golf Course, daughter of Wally and Penny Anglemeyer; Michelle Anthony, 17, senior, Miss Youth for Christ, daughter of Kevin and Deb Anthony; Alyssa Bates, 17, senior, Miss Edward Jones, daughter of Dave and Monica Bates; Samantha Carney, 17, junior, Miss North Central Co-op, daughter of Steve and Jody Miller; Alyssa Goodman, 17, senior, Miss Chiphone Federal Credit Union, daughter of Kathy Goodman and the late Michael Goodman;

Also, Lindsey Kaufman, 16, junior, Miss Sullivan Group, daughter of Jeff and Laura Kaufman; Kaitlin Kirkdorffer, 16, junior, Miss John's Auto Spa, daughter of Jeff and Terri Kirkdorffer; Calley Tucker, 18, senior, Miss Fins and Feathers, daughter of Conrad and Rita Tucker.
